The telephone learning series, launched by the RCI in June of 2007 has been a huge success and will continue in 2008.
In 2007, over 650 listeners participated in our series of seminars presented in a conference-call format. Listeners called the toll free number from across the United States and overseas for the opportunity to hear nationally recognized experts and ask questions relevant to their personal experiences. The 2007 series featured the topics: Symptoms of Alzheimer’s, Managing Problem Behavior in Alzheimer’s Patients, Understanding Advance Medical Directives, Improving Care Transitions, Caring for a Loved One with Cancer, and Reducing Caregiving Stress During the Holidays.
Many of the listeners were family caregivers who were tuning in to gain some insight into caring for their loved ones. We were excited to learn that many professional caregivers also took advantage of our Telephone Learning Series. Many organizations that serve the elderly, ill, disabled or their caregivers used our TLS seminars to provide training to their staff.
From listener feedback, we’re planning sessions on several requested topics for 2008, including: caregiving for stroke survivors, traumatic brain injury resources, as well as more information on cancer and dementia caregiving. The Rosalynn Carter Institute is committed to providing information on caregiving for a variety of conditions across the lifespan through this easily accessible medium.
