Intervention Study Title:
Effects of a family intervention on the Quality of Life of women with recurrent breast cancer and their family caregivers

The FOCUS Program for family caregivers is the result of three separate clinical trials: the initial trial was conducted with 134 caregiving dyads dealing with recurrent breast cancer; the second trial was conducted with 222 caregiving dyads dealing with prostate cancer; and the current study aims to compare two doses of the family intervention vs. a control group and examines the effect of a patient's "risk for distress" on study outcomes.

Core program content for the FOCUS program revolves around the following areas:
F = family involvement
O = optimistic attitude
C = coping effectiveness
U = uncertainty reduction
S = symptom management
