2007 Georgia Family Caregiver of the Year
Ms. Annie Johnson
Plains, Georgia
Ms. Annie Johnson, the Georgia Family Caregiver of the Year, lives on the outskirts of Plains with her 46-year-old grandson, Mark. Mark suffers from Cerebral Palsy, and is profoundly disabled, non-verbal, incontinent and is on an enteral feeding tube. She has been caring for Mark in her home for 40 years. Ms. Johnson has provided Mark with excellent care and a lot of love despite having health problems herself and living with very few luxuries.
Although President and Mrs. Carter have known Ms. Johnson for years and visit her often, Mrs. Carter didn’t know she was the award winner until the day before the Awards Banquet. Mrs. Carter was smiling through her tears as she presented a gilded rose and a check for $1,000 to Ms. Johnson.
Ms. Johnson was nominated by staff of the Middle Flint Behavioral Healthcare.
