Georgia’s CARE-NETs are providing assistance to the Atlanta Alliance on Developmental Disabilities (AADD) by helping them promote their Lunch & Learn Training Series throughout the state.
The AADD training, Conversations that Matter: Introduction to Disability, will be held from August to October at various locations in Georgia. The training is sponsored by the Division on Aging Services in partnership with the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Addictive Diseases; Dekalb Developmental Disabilities Council; and the AADD.
The two-hour sessions strive to help attendees understand the history of services for people with disabilities; learn about state and local resources; and learn the values and language critical to supporting individuals with disabilities.
In thousands of homes in Georgia, aging caregivers are providing constant care for adult family members with disabilities. Better health care is resulting in more adults with developmental disabilities surviving into old age. Individuals with developmental disabilities and their caregivers face a two-fold challenge: the disability itself, as well as the inherent concerns surrounding aging.
For this reason, the CARE-NETs recognize the value of this training for family and professional caregivers. Several CARE-Net liaisons are serving as contacts and assisting with registration in their region. Other CARE-NETs are helping spread the word to their membership and interested persons in their area.
Caregivers and caregiving professionals in the state of Georgia are invited to take part in one of these Lunch & Learn sessions. For a calendar of scheduled training sessions, visit the AADD web site.
