To honor their work and to focus public attention on the contributions of caregivers throughout the state, the Rosalynn Carter Institute on Caregiving in cooperation with the Georgia CARE-NETS initiated the Georgia Caregiver of the Year Awards in 2007.
Awards were presented to exemplary caregivers in three categories:
Family Caregiver (relative or non-relative perceived as family)
Para-Professional Caregivers (ex. LPN, CNA, Home Health Aide, Direct Support Caregiver, etc)
Volunteer Caregiver (people who volunteer their time to provide care to others through community agencies, churches, or as individuals.)
Four caregivers were named Georgia Caregivers of the Year October 25 at the RCI's 20th Anniversary Awards Banquet. The selection committee had a difficult time choosing among the outstanding nominees. In fact, in the category of Paraprofessional Caregiver, there was a tie - so two outstanding caregivers were honored in that category. Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter presented each winner with a gilded rose and a check for $1,000.
