For several years, Annelle Couch, of Chatsworth cared for her mother as she suffered from dementia. She attended a support group for caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia, and realized what an important resource this support group was. After her mother’s death, Mrs. Couch made it her mission to support other caregivers. She began leading the very support group she once attended, offering advice and a shoulder to lean on. Mrs. Couch has continued to lead this group, even when suffering from her own health problems.
Mrs. Couch works at a local nursing home to stay in daily contact with dementia patients. She stays current on the latest research, attends every training and workshop possible, and has even written a caregiving column for a local newspaper.
Mrs. Couch was nominated by staff of the Alzheimer’s Association, North Georgia Regional Office. She received a gilded rose from Mrs. Rosalynn Carter and a check for $1,000.
